France 1789, just before the Revolution, Pierre Manceron is unfairly sacked from his role as chef to a great aristocratic household. In despair he returns to his peasant house and sulks until the arrival of the mysterious Louise. With her encouragement and strength, he opens France’s first restaurant, to the anger of the Ancien Regime. Beautifully shot, this is one of the most elegant films of the last decade.
